Game 5: Dwarfs vs. Warriors of Chaos

Deployment

The Dwarfs deployed in one corner in a compact gunline and the Warriors of Chaos set up accordingly. The Chaos general rolled Flickering Fire and Treason of Tzeentch, the other disc-mounted sorcerer rolled Flickering Fire and Call to Glory, and the exalted hero joined the marauder unit.

Turn 1

The anvil strikes an ancient rune and hits 3 targets, killing 4 horsemen, 5 warhounds in the centre, 2 warhounds on the flank, and snaring the units. The cannons inflict 2 wounds on the giant and kill 1 knight.

The Warriors of Chaos march. The spawns shuffle forward slowly. Flickering Fire is dispelled with a rune. Fireball is dispelled. The Banner of Wrath is dispelled.

Turn 2

The anvil again strikes an ancient rune and again hits 3 targets, killing 3 marauders, 3 warriors, and just snaring the knights on the flank. The warriors fail their panic test and flee (having foolishly forgotton about their Mark of Slaanesh). The organ guns kill 3 marauders and 4 knights in the centre. The knights also fail their panic test and flee. The cannons inflict 1 wound on the giant, 1 wound on the general, and kill 4 marauders.

The knights and warriors rally. The spawns shuffle forward slowly again. Flickering Fire is dispelled. An irresistible Flickering Fire only kills 1 hammerer. A Fireball kills 1 more hammerer. The Banner of Wrath kills 4 thunderers in the centre.

Turn 3

The anvil yet again strikes an ancient rune and yet again hits 3 targets, killing 2 warhounds, 1 warrior, and 2 marauders. One organ kills the giant, the other misfires but survives. The cannons inflict 2 wounds on a spawn. The thunderers in the centre kill 2 marauders and the thunderers on the flank kill 2 knights.

The warhound on the flank charges the thunderers, but dies as they stand and shoot. The horseman charges the thunderers' flank and kills 2. The knight charges the organ gun and kills 1 crewman, but the other crewmen kill the knight. The general charges the anvil, inflicts 1 wound on the runelord in a challenge, but then dies.

Turn 4

The anvil strikes a normal rune and kills 5 marauders. The organ guns kill 4 warriors and a spawn. One cannon kills 1 warrior, the other's grapeshot inflicts 1 wound on a spawn. The thunderers finish off the spawn.

A fireball kills 1 hammerer. Flickering Fire is dispelled. The thunderers kill the horseman.

Turn 5

The anvil strikes a normal rune, sending the hammerers charging into the sorcerer, who flees. The organ gun on the hill misfires and explodes, the other kills 5 marauders. The cannons kill 1 knight and 1 warrior.

A Fireball is cast at a cannon, but all hits land on the cannon (not the crew). Flickering Fire is dispelled. The Banner of Wrath is dispelled. The Warriors of Chaos concede.

Summary

The Dwarfs won the game. By a succession of lucky rolls, the anvil snared and mangled the entire Chaos battleline and those units which did reach combat failed their attacks miserably. The only Dwarf unit to die was the organ gun that blew itself up. The magic phase was effectively shut down and those spells which were cast rolled hardly any damage, achieving nothing.
